To Celebrate 37th Year Of Service
Of Women's Zionist Organization
A large birthday celebration will be held by Windham County Chapter of Hadassah on March 20, 7 P.M., at Sons of Zion Synagogue, Putnam.
According to Mrs. Philip M. Feldman, Chairman, the occasion marks the 37th year of Hadassah's achievement in the fields of medicine, public health and child welfare in Israel, and is being observed this month in 1000 other communities in 47 states where Hadassah has chapters.
A feature of the evening will be the full length movie entitled "Tomorrow's A Wonderful Day".
This film was prepared in Israel over a period of two years. Preceding it will be a delightful tray supper, and the program will be climaxed by a session of fun and merriment.
Tickets are now on sale and already guests from Brooklyn, Abington, East Putnam and Danielson are expected. Aiding Mrs. Feldman, chairman, are Mrs. Sigmund Levy of Abington, Mrs. Irving P. Cohn, Mrs. Thomas Shafner and Mrs. Nathan Nosenchuck, of Brooklyn.
In 1912 Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, was founded by Miss Henrietta Szold, an American born school teacher and social worker, for the practical purpose of carrying on a program of healing and social work, which commenced with the sending of two nurses to the Holy Land.
Today Hadassah's health program extends throughout Israel and patients are treated there regardless of race, creed or political affiliation.
Through its Youth Aliyah (immigration) movement some 40,000 Jewish children have been rescued and brought to Israel where they have been educated and rehabilitated. Desperately needed supplies of drugs, linens, medical instruments to stock the institutions of Israel and clothing for the pitiful newcomers from the displaced persons camps are distributed through Hadassah's supplies program.
Working with the Jewish National Fund, members and friends of the organization have purchased land and helped in the reclamation of arid wastes.
