Couple found by C. G. after fish packer damaged

KETCHIKAN (AP) Coast Guard officials here said last night the fish packer Pirate has been located awash but still afloat near Cape Chacon between Hidden Bay and Ingram Bay.

The Pirate had been missing since Saturday. A radio call saying, "We are sinking." was heard Saturday night.

The Coast Guard said it came from the Pirate. Cape Chacon was mentioned in the distress call.

A Coast Guard plane was dispatched to the scene with emergency food supplies as it was reported the ship was out of food. The report to the Coast Guard also said the ship's engine room is flooded and the boat is disabled.

The Coast Guard cutter Kimball was also sent to the scene

The Pirate was due in Ketchikan with salmon from Klawock Sunday. Attempts by officials at the Independent Salmon cannery at Ketchikan to contact the Pirate by telephone earlier yesterday failed.

The cannery said that another packer in Moira Sound reported the Pirate left there Saturday for Klawock, which would have taken the vessel around Cape Chacon. A company packer at Klawock said the Pirate never arrived there.

The Pirate was operated by Fred Brandes, Jr., a veteran boatman. His wife, Alcesta, was on the Pirate with him.

It was not known here whether any others were aboard.
