BOSTON, AUGUST 31.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY.

On Thursday evening, just after dark, Mr. Elisha Brigham, of this town, on his return home from Dedham, was stopped by two highwaymen, at a solitary part of the turnpike, ordered to come from his chaise, robbed of his pocket-book and watch, and then fastened to a tree by cords. The robbers did not appear to be hardened villains, and though they threatened the life of Mr. B. if he gave any alarm, they did not offer him any bodily injury. They told him money only was their object; and at his request returned him his watch and chest key; and assured him his papers should be restored, after they had examined the pocket book. The horse and chaise was turned loose, and came into the owner's yard, about half past ten. It was some time after the robbers made off, before Mr. B. could extricate himself from the cords; and just before he liberated himself, he heard the report of a pistol; which it is supposed went off accidentally, as the ball was found in the lining of the chaise.
