Hindus Held On
Theft Suspicion

Marion Singh, 50, and Gasin Singh, 50, Hindus, had a good crop of lettuce this year, but they should be more careful of the kind of lettuce they grow, for it landed both in the county jail for investigation of burglary.

Last summer a local packing shed was burglarized, and a large quantity of lettuce seed, of a distinctive variety, was stolen.

Late last week the Hindus tried to sell lettuce of the same variety in El Centro. J. Sterling Oswalt, chief of police, and Hugh Keating, merchant patrolman, investigated and found that the variety is very scarce.

They investigated further, and finally jailed the Hindus, to be held in safe keeping while the investigation is continued.
