PITIFUL!

In the Providence Journal of the 7th instant, is the following account, which appears as original :

"Robert Salmon, a vender of Morrison's Pills, has been arrested at New-York, on a charge of manslaughter, the coroner's jury having returned a verdict to that effect against him, finding that the death of a Capt. Mackenzie was occasioned by the pills, as administered by Salmon."

Now this is to certify, that there is not any agent for vending the genuine Morison's Pills in the United States, by the name of Robert Salmon; from which I infer, that the article alluded to in the Journal, is a clear, sheer fabrication. Let it have originated from whatever source it might.

But admitting that a patient who had taken Morison's Pills, and who afterwards died; and that a post mortem examination took place by the enemies of the Hygeian theory, and that they decided that the death of the patient was caused by taking Morison's Pills. I say, admitting all this, and what does it amount to, in comparison with the THOUSANDS of cases susceptible of proof, where patients have been given up by the Doctors of the old School, as incurable, and who afterwards have been restored to health, by the use of Morison's pills alone.

But how stands the case with those Doctors opposed to the Hygeian theory—why, when they lose a patient, it is by general consent, believed, that the patient died by the Visitation of God.

But suppose that in every instance, where any of the faculty lose a patient, though wrong treatment of the disease, that they were to be indicted for manslaughter—how many indictments suppose ye, would be found annually in the United States alone.

But what was the motive of the conductors of the Journal, in publishing the account alluded to—was it intended as a caution to the public against using Morison's pills, believing them to be a deleterious medicine? If so, their object was laudable, although based on ignorance;—but what I consider to be their true motive, renders the publication still more pitiful.

SAM'L YOUNG.

Main Argument

the report of robert salmon's arrest for manslaughter due to morison's pills is a fabrication, as no such agent exists; even if true, the pills have cured thousands given up by traditional doctors, who face no such scrutiny for their failures.
