DOLAN AND NOLAN GET TWENTY FOUR YEARS

Physical violence, or the chance to commit it, or the inclination to commit it is not tolerated in the least by Judge Poindexter. He said as much in court this afternoon in administering sentence on three criminals convicted by juries. Another element clearly brought forth from the bench was its inclination to attempt in any way to go behind the determination of facts as found by the jury.

George Davis, convicted of entering a private house and committing theft while the inmates were asleep, was sent to Walla Walla for eight years.

James Nolan, 55 years of age, partner with Thomas Dolan in strong-arming a patron at the Florence bar while the bartender looked on, was, in spite of his protestations of innocence, given nine years in the state penitentiary.

Thomas Dolan received something in return for his participation in the Christmas mince pie tumult in the county jail. The court stated that Dolan was the man who held the victim's hands behind his back while Nolan went through the pockets. The court referred to the jail disturbance as indicative of Dolan's determination to resist anything that looks like regulations or law and order. He said that Dolan should get it into his head that Dolan had no more privilege to thwart the aims and ends of organized society than any other man. Dolan's sentence was 15 years in the pen.

George Bradley was to have been sentenced, but his attorney pleaded lack of time in which to get the record of the trial transcribed and would not be able to formulate a motion for a new trial until tomorrow.

"I am very desirous that everything which can be said should be said in favor of these defendants," said the court. "I grant the motion for continuance for 24 hours."
