Extract of a Letter from the Hague.

The Affairs of Europe are in a critical Situation. The Northern Bear has slipped his Collar, and may do much Mischief before he is chained down again. The Imperial Eagle had her Wings clipped last Year; the Growth of this Spring may enable her to soar again. The Gallic Cock, after having crossed and clapped his Wings, would gladly leave the Pit. The Western Lion, roused at length from his Lethargy, growls, and spreads Terror all around. The Prussian Hawk, raised aloft, is ready to dart down upon the first Motion of his half frightened Enemies. The Turkish Crescent may perhaps, influence the political Tides of Germany. One Death throws the whole Southern World into Confusion: the Sardinian wants neither Power nor Spirit to assert his Claim; the Neapolitan will hardly be cajoled out of his Right. The Gallic Spider is caught in her own Web; Jove has put it afire, and has entangled herself; having so many political irons in the Fire, some must cool; by endeavouring to trample upon the Powers of Germany, she has got a Thorn in her Foot; how her State Surgeons will be able to pluck it out, is not easy to foresee.
