Full Text

Cowardly Attack.

"He who fights and runs away, will live to fight another day," but he who strikes a woman and runs away is a cowardly dog every day. Such a fellow is William Smith formerly of Sing Sing, N. Y., who worked a few days at the Burtis House, and for two weeks past has been head waiter at the Rock Island House. He was discharged this morning for using abusive language about the house, and took a cowardly revenge by stealing into the kitchen and striking the cook. He then took to his heels, crossed on the ice to the first pier of the bridge and reached Davenport before the officers could catch him.
