CONWAY—Last Monday evening, the athletic banquet was held in the cafetorium at 7:30. Theodore Jones, president of the athletic committee, served as toastmaster. Byron Jenkins sang a solo, "Thine Alone". Mr. Swinton introduced the speaker, M. L. Summerville, instructor at Philander Smith college, Little Rock, who turned the eyes and ears of his listeners to "Making the Most of What We Have." He stated, "one of the easiest thing in the world to do - - is to make excuses; and the world isn't concerned with excuses but results." "A person should do something or get out of the next person's way." He included the works of several great scientists, mathematicians and poets. After bringing out their works so vividly, he climaxed by stating "we are never put in a place to small to grow . . . There can be nothing more fruitful than reading. Use your imagination and make a contribution. Today there are no blind alley jobs - - they are only in the minds of one." Jamie Mitchell, a senior, gave an instrumental solo, "Ava Maria"; Sammie Pitts gave the highlights of the football season. Presentation of awards by Coach Swinton. Interesting statements were made by the senior players concerning their experience during the past four years of football playing. Principal E. J. Landers climaxed the program with a lecture on the round up for the entire football season, and making pictures of various groups.
