APPEAL DENIED,
LIPPARDS FACE
TERM ON ROADS

Charlotte, May 21.-Solicitor John G. Carpenter said that at the June term of criminal court in Mecklenburg he will issue capiases for Carl and Paul Lippard and ask the court to order that they begin serving road terms in connection with their conviction on charges of conspiracy to violate the liquor laws.

The men were convicted in Superior court several months ago and took appeals to the Supreme court. The high court ruled "no error" in the matter in opinions handed down Wednesday, and the ruling is expected just about to mark the end of the trial for the two men in their efforts to stay off the roads.

Carl Lippard was sentenced to eighteen months and his uncle, Paul Lippard was sentenced to six months. In the course of the trial, the State contended that the two men were master minds of the liquor selling business in this section of the State.

Evidence was introduced to show that huge quantities of whiskey were brought into Charlotte under direction of the Lippards. They were said to have operated a truck from Charlotte to Maryland once a week or oftener. Each load was said to have been made up of about four thousand dollars worth of liquor.

The evidence of the prosecution was said to have brought out into the open for the first time the figures showing the large amount of whiskey supposedly consumed in "dry" Mecklenburg.
