New Officers Are Elected.

The Chautauquans elected a president and vice-president at their meeting last Sunday, the members holding those positions having received their discharge from prison.

"Pendennis" was elected to the chair. There was no contest.

One of the new members was elected vice-president.

Owing to the extraordinary business to be transacted, there was time for but three papers to be read and discussed. The first report was a paper entitled, "One Aspect of Socialism," in which the member pointed out the possible evils which might result from government ownership of monopolies and industries. After a few minutes of discussion a paper on "Religion and Patriotism in Japan" was read and discussed.

It was followed by an address by the retiring president. The report of the critic brought the meeting to a close.
