Causes of Sudden Death.—New York

physicians dwell on the causes, or probable

causes, of the many sudden deaths of men

in public life, which have recently taken

place, and come to the conclusion that over-
work and want of rest are at the bottom of
it. Innutrition and over-work cause a de-
generation in the coats of the blood vessels
in the brain, and then, by their bursting or
over distension, death may occur at any
time.

Again, the majority of people in
this country use largely such inferior food,
as flesh meats and preparations of fine flour
half decomposed with yeast or soda, and
also use in their cooking operations an ex-
cess of lard, butter, salt, spices, etc., and as
many who live thus work harder than any
ought to work who live on the best diet, it
is a wonder that apoplexy is not more fre-
quent than it is.
