At the meeting of the Rock Island Humane society held at the association house, 637 Seventeenth street, last evening, the financial secretary reported collection for the month passed amounting to $111. While this relieves the immediate stress of the society, it still leaves but little money for the future work of the society. If the work is to be maintained and an officer retained it will be necessary for the friends of the society to make special efforts in its behalf. A general discussion concerning the future of the society resulted in the appointment of a committee to perfect plans looking towards its permanent support.
The humane officer, Wirt Taylor, presented the following report for the month just passed:
Animal cases: Complaints received and investigated, 12; horses and mules examined in harness, 50; drivers reprimanded, 6; horses destroyed, 2; complaints received and investigated, 1.
