Yesterday Morning about Ten o'Clock, during the
Time of Mass at the Sardinian Ambassador's Chapel,
Three or Four Persons well dres'd, went into the Chapel,
and not only ridicul'd the Service then performing, both
by Words and Gestures, but struck several who were at
their Devotion, and proceeded up to the Altar, and very
much abused the Priest who officiated. The Ambassador
Porter who endeavoured to put a Stop to the Riot, was
knock'd down, and received Two Cuts in his Face. Upon
which, being obliged to break up Mass, they tried to
seize the Rioters, but were not able to take any more than
Two of them, who were carried before Mr. Justice Mid-
ford, and by him committed the same Day to Newgate,
tho' great Bail was offered. We hear that his Excellency
the Sardinian Ambassador immediately went to Court
to complain of the Indignity.
