The Empress Queen has issued an Ordinance, commanding that no Woman shall enter into a Convent before she has attained her twenty fourth Year; upon which the Ecclesiasticks appealed to the Pope, who has written a Letter to her Imperial Majesty, desiring her not to overturn the ancient Custom, but to let every Person follow their own Inclination. The Empress hereupon wrote an Answer to his Holiness, that, as Sovereign in her own Dominions, she had a Right to do as she pleased, and that she should not revoke the Order.
