It appears by the newspapers from different quarters, that the public attention begins to be turned to the next election of representatives under the new apportionment. Much good advice is offered to the people on the importance of the occasion, and the rules by which they ought to choose the men, who are to be entrusted with their honor, their liberties, and their interests: As (first) That they be men of independent minds and honest principles. 2. That they be true friends to liberty and republican government. 3. That they be not jobbers in paper. 4. That they be not office hunters. Such men alone can have a common interest and feeling with the people, and be entitled to their confidence.
