A friend in the East writes us in regard to the prospects and situation of Winthrop, opposite this city. The place is flourishing finely. It is the Missouri terminus of the Atchison and St. Joseph Railroad, and that road is now graded from the levee in Winthrop, for over three miles back. A large force of workmen are employed upon it. Seven miles are also graded below St. Joseph, and the road is cleared of timber its entire length.
Winthrop contains a saw mill, grocery and about fifteen houses.
It is situated in the midst of a heavy timbered district, but has been laid out but a few months and is growing rapidly, and is destined to become a place of some importance. The Company, and can give all information in regard to it. C. Pomeroy, of this city, is President of
