Full Text

About a fortnight past one Trieft, an inhabitant of Townsend, who wore the marks of loyalty, and fled for refuge to the rocks of Bagwaduce, to partake of the loaves and fishes with the rest of those mercenary dependents on the Royal Breath, when the news of peace had reached the Eastern shores, finding all his confidence and protection on his guardians of tyranny was now failing, took the freedom to return to Townsend to his family: but having forfeited the protection of the citizens of America, was taken with a handspike under his crotch, and a halter round his neck, as the only reward of merit suitable for such traitors, he was then hung at the mast head of a sloop from eight o'clock in the evening until twelve next day; he was then taken down put in irons, and sent in a boat with his family to Bagwaduce, having first signed a paper not to return on pain of death.
