Last week Congressman Adam Clayton Powell announced his support of President Eisenhower in the coming election. He will support the party otherwise.
Mr. Powell says his decision to support the President was made because of the "great contribution in the Civil Rights field made particularly during the two first years of his administration."
Mr. Powell believes President Eisenhower has done more in the field of civil rights than any other president.
He will also form an organization of Independent Democrats to support President Eisenhower.
Of course Mr. Powell has a right to his opinion, and he certainly expresses it.
We believe President Eisenhower has done a good job in civil rights. However, we cannot forget one whom we think was the greatest of them all and the contribution made during his administration-Franklin Delano Roosevelt. and also his successor, former President Harry Truman.
On November 6 when the American people go to the polls, and there are 6,000,000 Negro votes among them; they will decide if President Eisenhower will be re-elected or if we will have a new President, Mr. Adlai Stevenson.
