PRESSMEN HAVE FIGHT ON

Local printing pressmen are being well supplied with literature these days.

The international union decided to oust the editor of the American Pressman, the official organ of the union. The editor refused to get out, and backed up by the big local unions of St. Louis, is issuing the journal as of yore.

In the meantime the international has issued another edition of the paper, which it is sending to every member of the union.

The row started over the action of the international ordering many of its local unions to repudiate their agreements and go on strike. The St. Louis unions refused to go and have defied the international. Several other big unions have refused to follow the lead of the international and unless something is done to pour oil on the troubled waters the international will be split wide open.

Among the unions which have refused to obey the orders of the international are Boston, Philadelphia, Providence, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Rochester.

The situation is further complicated by the action of the web pressmen of St. Louis withdrawing from the international and making an effort to form an independent international organization. The local pressmen have received letters from the St. Louis men asking that they join the movement for an independent international composed entirely of web pressmen. Local pressmen do not view the movement of the St. Louis pressmen with favor and unless conditions become much worse than they are at present they will stick with the old international.

The strike assessment which the pressmen have been paying has been reduced from 10 per cent to 5 per cent of their earnings.
