RUINED BY EXPENSIVE LIVING.

Boston, March 16.—Edgar Swan, of Lynn, paying teller of the National City bank, of Lynn, was before Commissioner Hallett this morning on complaint of Bank Examiner Gatchell, charged with being a defaulter to a very large amount. The total amount is reported to be $65,595. Of this, however, Mr. Swan has restored to the bank eighty shares of the Simpson-Boston stock, fifty shares of the same pledged with an equity of about $3,200, fifty shares of Chicago, Kansas & Western and about $3,000 additional, bringing the amount restored up to $33,450. Swan is 35 years old and has hitherto borne a good character. He has a wife and two children and has lived beyond his income in the endeavor to support them in style.
