TERRIBLE RAILROAD ACCIDENT!
55 Persons Killed--40 or 50 Wounded!

We learn from J. W. Cathcart, Esq., merchant of our city, who arrived home by the Luella yesterday morning, that an awful Railroad collision occurred about twenty miles beyond Windsor, Canada West, on the Great Western Road, on Friday morning last. The Express train coming west, came into contact with a gravel train, by which the engine, tender and second class passenger cars of the Express were smashed into atoms. The train upon which Mr. C. was a passenger, came along a few hours afterwards, and the spectacle he represents as horrible to the greatest degree.--Fifty-five dead bodies had already been found among the ruins; many more it was expected would be found, and several others were taken up in a dying condition. Some forty odd were under charge of surgical attendance. But one person was killed in the first class cars. It is always the poor emigrant who suffers by these abominable and murderous acts of carelessness on railroads. The Express, it was said, was considerably behind time when the "accident" occurred. Of course!
