Full Text

Accustomed, as we have been (says the National Intelligencer) to the gross and numerous distortions with which certain prints teem, we cannot repress our astonishment at the enormity of the late fabrication, said to be a speech of Red Jacket. To those who know the quarter from which it proceeds, it will appear in no other light but as the impotent effusion of party, perhaps personal rancour. But it will be remarked that it is sent forth into the world as a real bona-fide speech of Red Jacket, the organ of the principal chiefs of the Seneca, Onondaga and Cayuga Indians. It was intended, no doubt, to seize the unsuspecting moments of the reader, and make him the victim of its falsehoods. But, like all other untruths, it will recoil upon its fabricators, by furnishing a monument of the unblushing audacity of vice.
