BEGINS PROGRAM
FOR NEXT YEAR

FOUR-ACRE PLOT OF GROUND
TO BE USED FOR DEMONSTRATION
PURPOSES

Preparations for Hernando
county's exhibit at the Florida
Fair in Tampa early next year,
got well under way Monday after-
noon last when a Committee re-
cently appointed held its first
meeting and selected a chairman
and secretary and treasurer and
discussed other matters relative to
putting on the display. A. A.
McKethan was named as chairman
with J. W. Smith. as secretary and
treasurer. Other members of the
committee are R. E. McCleery and
E. R. Russell

B. E. Lawton, county agent, ap-
peared before the committee and
asked full cooperation.

Mr. Lawton said he had secured
a four-acre tract of land west of
Brooksville where he proposed to
carry on a demonstration farm,
growing practically every kind of
farm product that can be success-
fully produced in this section. He
also had in mind visiting every
part of the county and getting the
farmers interested in the work of
preparing for the display. He
said that it was his purpose to en-
courage the farmers to the extent
that they would show more inter-
est in next year's fair than ever
before.

The plans of the committee. in
cooperation with the county agent,
call for early preparations for the
Fair and a continuation of efforts
on their part until the Fair com-
mences and is brought to a close.

Mr. Lawton said the Farmers
had become much encouraged at
receiving first prize for the best
Sea Island cotton grown in the
state last year and also for secur-
ing first prize for meats.

At Monday's meeting. the com-
mittee authorized the immediate
purchase of seeds and fertilizer for
the demonstration farm and made
arrangements for the work to go
steadily on from now
until the
opening date of the Fair.
