Pet Rooster Attacks Child

Spartanburg Herald.

The pet rooster of little Miss Virginia Koppel, 162 Carolina avenue, is no longer cherished. Flying into a rage yesterday, the bird attacked the 3-year-old child while she was sitting on the steps of her home and, spurring her about the head, cut several deep gashes across her face. A physician was summoned and he found it necessary to take a stitch in the most severe wound.

The cause of the strange action of the rooster could not be accounted for by mother or father, who is Adolph Koppel, local jeweler. Since the time it was a mere white Leghorn biddie the bird had been a pet and, barring one or two times it had showed a tendency to chase the children, it always had been a model playmate. Yesterday it suddenly seemed to go into a rage, however, and so savagely fought at the time that in a few minutes her face was covered with blood.

"Did you beat the rooster off?" the mother was asked last night.

"Yes," she replied, "and that's not all. He is in the icebox now and we are planning to have chicken a la creme tomorrow."
