Everything in Readiness for Saturday's Big Society Event.
But a few days remain before the horse has an inning at the field where Manager George E. Harrington's warriors have so often gone down in defeat. On Saturday afternoon at the Athletic field man's most useful friend will be king.
Already Manager Howard H. Riggleman of this city has received over forty entries in all classes. Before Friday night this number may be doubled.
There is no doubt as to the intense interest that Waterbury people are taking in the horse show. First of all, Waterbury has never had an exhibition of this kind and its extreme novelty makes it doubly interesting.
Apparently, everyone is going to the horse show and if you want a good seat now is the time to purchase. Reserved seats may be found at F. P. Becton & Co's jewelry store.
Entries were received yesterday from J. Richard Smith, who has registered his dashing pair, Major and Dora, in class J. George L. White will exhibit his high grade pair, Billy and George, with victoria. Mr. White has an entry in class N for the best saddle horse ridden by a lady and will also exhibit in class U for the best pair of cobs shown in harness.
Miss Florence U. Dillon will show her black-coated cob, Peter Sterling, who is well known to most Waterbury people.
William H. White, son of George L. White, and Robert R. Tracy, son of George Tracy, will also exhibit. Mrs. I. D. Atwood of Woodbury and Mrs. George V. Neal and Marshall J. Grilley of Thomaston registered entries yesterday. Among the box subscribers yesterday were George L. White, Mrs. George A. Driggs and Contractor George Tracy.
Manager Riggleman is holding several boxes for prospective purchasers.
Last night it was almost impossible to walk in front of the big show window of the Woodruff Grocery Co on account of the crowd which had gathered to view the horse show premiums on exhibition there. Many more trophies will be added to the exhibition to-day.
Through the courtesy of General Manager J. E. Sewell of the Connecticut Railway and Lighting Co. Manager Riggleman has secured an electric car which he will send over the local trolley system to-night to advertise the show.
