Nonsegregation
For Armed Forces

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7. — President Truman said Thursday that his eventual goal is integration of all Negroes in the armed services with other personnel.

He told a news conference that the recent order of the Department of Defense, giving Negro personnel wider latitude, was only a progress report.

He said these moves will continue. He expects further recommendations from his committee studying the subject.

Eventually, he said, the armed services will reach the point in nonsegregation that the administration has hoped for from the beginning.
