The new press was put up under the supervision of Mr. Andrew Gerlach, machinist of Frostburg. Notwithstanding his unacquaintance with the numerous complications of printing machines, he mastered all and left the press in our hands thoroughly adjusted in all its parts. This issue of the JOURNAL, being experimental, does not show as well as we expect to make it, but enough is seen to justify us in saying "Andy" has accomplished a mechanical feat of considerable proportions. We had, besides, the valuable assistance, at different stages of the work, of his brother, Mr. John Gerlach, of Washington, D. C., and Messrs. John N. Benson, Thomas H. Hamill, Frank Maurey, M. Eberly, James McCahan, Andrew Hartig, Adam Grouse and Frederick Walker of Frostburg.
