Full Text
Resolved, That we approve of the rejection of Martin Van Buren, by the Senate of the United States, as Minister to England, unnecessarily appointed during the recess of the Senate; because he stigmatized American rights as unjust pretensions, and begged a boon for a party, which was not asked for the country.
Resolved, That the late letter of Andrew Jackson to the British party men of the State of New York, ludicrously claiming as his own offspring the illegitimate bantling of the rejected Minister, his letter of instructions to Louis McLane, is an outrage upon the understanding of those who know the President and his minister, and affords good cause for the rejection of one by the Senate, and of the other by the People.
Resolved, That we view the crisis which has lately called forth the interposition of the National Judiciary, to support the Constitution, laws, and treaties of the United States, against the encroachments and lawless oppression of a member of the Union, as emanating from the temporizing policy of the President, and we believe that to preserve the Union the People must reform the reformer.
Resolutions were also adopted approving the National Republican Nomination of candidates for the Presidency and Vice Presidency.
