FOREST FIRES FATAL
At Least Eight Dead In Spruce River District as Flames Rage On.

Fernie, B. C., July 30.--Forest fires were still raging in various sections of the Spruce river valley near here today.

At least eight are dead, with relief parties searching for more bodies. Several are missing. Millions of feet of lumber were destroyed.

Besides eight bodies picked up in the trail of the fire, a Russian, fearfully burned and blind from flames, had gone insane with torture.

Last reports had the fire partially under control.
