Full Text
A very serious charge from a high source has been laid at the door of Captain Isaac Bray, superintendent of the Sailors' Home on Richards and Halekauwila streets. He has been specifically charged with promoting the desertion of two British sailors from the British bark Criffel on the third of last month.
The charge comes from no less authority than the British Consul, Hon. R. de B. Lavard, in a letter addressed to the trustees of the Home. The Consul goes further and quotes United States Marshal Hendry and United States District Attorney Breckons as authority for the statement that this is not the first time Bray has done the like, but that furthermore he is suspected of having harbored deserters from the American army and navy, both.
The Secretary of the Board of Trustees, F. A. Schaefer, has officially notified the other trustees of the receipt of the letter and a meeting will be called to investigate the charges.
