Full Text

President Electoral Votes.

Scarcely a Southern paper has reached us for a month past (neither federal or democratic) but have contained more or less speculations upon the Presidential election, in which both, with the utmost ease. elect their favourite candidates. But there is such a wide difference between electing a President on paper and placing a man in the chair of state, that we have never thought it worth our while to make any calculations on the subject—leaving it until after the election to be determined who is to be President

How far it may be justifiable in others to excite hopes where there is no prospect of their realizing them, we will not now undertake to determine; but we do not hesitate to aver that the event of this election will prove many to be false prophets.
