COLORED MAN BECOMING WHITE.

Remarkable Experience of Warren

Jackson, of Odessa, who Now Has

Only a few Black Spots on His Body.

Warren Jackson, colored, of Odessa, who
is gradually losing his black skin, and is
turning white, was the centre of attraction
in the county court room yesterday after-
noon. He was the prosecuting witness
against Walter Hunter, colored, who was
accused of shooting him in the eye, de-
stroying the sight. Jackson is more white
than black. The only spots noticeable at
first glance are two about the size of silver
quarters under the eyes and several spots
which could pass as freckles. His fore-
head is fair, his jaws and the back of his
neck are clear and white, although there
are a few small spots on the jaw and a few
black lines on the nose. Jackson did not
seem to relish the attention he was at-
tracting, and did not care to talk about his
change of color.

He said he was about 25 years old.
Both of his parents were black, and when
he was born he was as black as they. He
was like any other colored boy until he be-
came six years old, when a white spot
about the size of an egg appeared in the
middle of his back. Nothing was thought
of it at the time, but it gradually spread as
the boy grew, until his whole body was
white. His feet still have some black on
them. His face was the last to change,
and it will not be many years before it is
entirely white. The back of the hands are
white, but there are black streaks on the
fingers.

His scalp is white, but the hair is still
kinky and he has the thick lips of the ne-
gro. When Jackson's body was about half
white his parents took him to a physician,
who told them the change of color was due
to a disease of the inner skin. The outer
skin does not peel off, but the coloring
matter beneath seems to disappear. It is
said there is a girl in Odessa who is turn-
ing white. She is the young daughter of
George Purnell, a well-known colored man.

People who passed Jackson on the street
yesterday turned around and stared at him.
and from the time he left the Court House
until he arrived at the French street station
people looked at him in wonder.

His assailant was sentenced to one year's
imprisonment.-Morning News.
