Full Text
The Investigation Committee.
The N. Y. Tribune in commenting upon the Committee appointed under Mr. Trumbull's investigating resolution, says:
“The Committee is to be one of those which is designed to keep the word of promise to the ear and break it to the hope. It is examination with the examiners and the power of examining alike carefully eliminated beforehand.
But nobody will be deceived by such child's play as this, and we warn the weak gentlemen who put forward this pitiful piece of business that they have, within five days, done more to bring the Administration into disrepute with the country than can be redeemed by a whole year of conscientious and honest dealing with public questions.”
Men will ask, “what are they concealing?”
Morton, Cameron, Conkling, Nye & Co, are laboring to conceal the frauds and robberies of the Administration of U. S. Grant.
