Full Text

London, May 12. The 7th Instant, a Courier arrived here from Mr. Keene, the King's Minister Plenipotentiary at the Court of Madrid, and it is said, the Dispatches he brought, give some Prospect that the Conferences will not begin there so soon as we flatter ourselves they would. It's pretended, that the Court of Madrid requires the South-Sea Company to pay her the 68,000 l. Sterling, so often mentioned, and Great-Britain to abandon Georgia, before the Conferences are opened. We are assur'd that new Instructions have been sent to the King's Plenipotentiaries at Madrid on that Head, with Orders to propose to the Spanish Court, to desist from her Pretensions to Georgia; and that Endeavours will be used to satisfy the King of Spain, in Regard to the other Point. However it be, Don Thomas Geraldino, His Catholick Majesty's Minister Plenipotentiary, having likewise receiv'd a Courier from his Court, 3 Hours after the Arrival of the other dispatch'd by Mr. Keene, his Excellency went immediately to St. James's, in order to communicate to the King the Dispatches he had just receiv'd; but His Majesty sent him Word, that he knew the Contents of them already.
