Seeming Slight Accident Proves Fatal.

Mark Pendleton, of Bar Harbor, died Sunday under peculiar circumstances.

About two weeks ago Mr. Pendleton was opening a keg of paint, when a small piece of the chisel he was using broke off and flew into his eye. At the advice of physicians he went to the hospital at Bangor to have the eye treated. It was feared that the eyesight would be destroyed, but there was no thought of more serious result.

At the hospital it was found necessary to remove the eye, and the operation was successfully performed. Mr. Pendleton rallied after the operation, and last week he returned to Bar Harbor, apparently on the rapid road to recovery. Soon after reaching Bar Harbor alarming symptoms of blood poisoning became apparent, and rapidly developed, terminating fatally Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Pendleton was forty-five years of age. He was a sign-painter by trade, and was in the employ of Lawford & Wakefield. He formerly lived in Winter Harbor, and to that place his remains were taken Tuesday. He leaves a wife and one daughter.
