Full Text

Extract of a Letter from Copenhagen, October 3.

The Affairs of the North of Europe begin to take a very serious Turn. The Empress of Russia, in certain Expectation of a renewed War with the Turks, is not only making the most vigorous Preparations herself, but has required all her Allies to furnish her with the stipulated Succours either of Men or Money. As our Kingdom is among her Imperial Majesty's Allies, we are bound to send her six Thousand Men, or sixty Thousand Crowns, every Year during the War. As so large a Sum would by no Means suit the disordered State of our Finances, we hear that the Court has resolved to pay her Contingent in Men, though how soon they may want them themselves Heaven Knows.
