In 1947 the organization adopted the policy of presenting a Certificate of Merit at its annual meeting each year to two Mississippi citizens, one white, and one Negro, who had made the most distinguished contribution to human progress and good will. The award to the white citizen went to Dr. Easom.
The award to the Negro citizen went to Mrs. Lillian Rogers Johnson of Cleveland, Miss.
Citations for distinguished service to education in the state were presented Prof. A. L. Johnson, of Prentiss Institute, and Prof. G. W. Williams of Oakley Training School.
The presentations were made by Prof. E. S. Bishop, Principal, Corinth High School and former president of the association.
