McALLEN DAILY-MONITOR
Sunday. March 15, 1936.
Frenzied by the torture of Arbela. Lady Beth
again cried out: "Stop!" At once. the eyes of
the Baalites were turned upon her. Then she
foresaw for the first time the inevitable result
of her impetuous, unconsidered action - she
would share Arbela's fate.
But to her amazement the monstrous creatures
did not lay hands on her. Instead. they shrieked
and fell to their knees. "A miracle!" they cried.
"She has risen from the dead!" In truth. that
very day. they had seen her flung into the lake.
enveloped in a weighted net
Even Niarchus was taken aback. but not for
long. He himself had wrought many things
which he had represented as miracles to his
ignorant followers. And now his crafty. mind
found an advantageous explanation of Lady
Beth's puzzling escape from Merodach's waters.
"Yea. a miracle!" the high priest cried: "but it
was Baal's miracle-not hers. In his wondrous
way our god of gods has shown us that he did
not wish her to die by water. but by the fire of
the Fiery Pillar! Then she shall not rise again.
Executioners! seize her!"
