IMPORTANT.

The New-York Gazette, has received, by the ship Dalhousie Castle, Liverpool papers of the 16th ult. and London to the 15th. By this arrival we are put in possession of the following important intelligence. Mr. Canning has been appointed, by the King, Premier--in consequence of which, seven members of the Cabinet have resigned, viz: The Lord Chancellor Eldon, the Duke of Wellington, Lord Sidmouth, Lord Bathurst, Lord Westmoreland, Lord Bexley, and Mr. Peel.

Lord Lowther, son of Lord Lonsdale, also resigned, as one of the Lords of the Treasury.

It was understood that Mr. Canning was in possession of the King's cordial support, and that the resignation of the retiring members had been received without hesitation. Lord Bexley had signified his wish to recall his resignation.

Various lists of members for the new administration were in circulation. The Duke of Clarence had been appointed at the head of the Board of Admiralty, all the members of which, except Viscount Melville, would remain. It was rumoured that the Marquis of Anglesea, would succeed the Duke of Wellington, all of whose subordinate officers, exceeding forty, it is said, would retire with him.--Other reports assigned the Chancellorship to Sir J. Copley or Mr. Brougham, and that the Marquis of Lansdown would take a part in the administration.

Consols closed on the evening of the 14th at 82, buyers, the change in the Ministry producing but little effect.

Certain of his Majesty's household had also resigned, viz.: the Duke of Montrose, Lord Chamberlain; Marquis of Graham, vice do.; Duke of Bedford, Master of the Horse. The Courier considers this an extraordinary attempt to fetter the King's choice.

Mr. Huskisson was spoken of as the successor of Mr. Peel; Mr. Robinson of Earl Bathurst; Lord Granville of Mr. Canning, and Viscount Dudley, Lord of the Privy Seal.

The Corn Duties Bill was passed in the House of Commons on the 12th of April.

House of Commons, 5 o'clock, 12th April.--Mr. Wynn, President of the India Board, moved that a writ of election issue in the Borough of Newport, to elect a member in the room of the Hon. George Canning, who had accepted the place of first Lord of the Treasury.--[Great cheering from all parts of the House.] Mr. Wynn then moved an adjournment to the 1st of May, in order to afford time to Mr. Canning to frame his new cabinet. Mr. Tierney objected, saying that time enough had been taken to form a new cabinet, and as it was understood that seven of the old members had ran away, and nobody knew when they would return, it was not worth while to wait. The adjournment, however, was carried.

It is impossible for us, at this distance, to conjecture who will be Mr. Canning's associates.--The Times of April 11, says: that he, Mr. Canning, having refused to accept the station of Premier, unless with unrestrained authority to form a cabinet, had carried his point, and was perfectly free.

Lord Granville, the British Ambassador at Paris, is mentioned for the Foreign Secretary, and Mr. Scarlett as the successor of the Lord Chancellor.
