Last Night a melancholy Accident happened in Newgate-street, by an unlucky Boy's putting a lighted Serpent into the Pocket of a Man who was selling such Things to the Crowd, and set some Dozens of them on Fire, the Noise of which frighted the Horses of two Carts which were then going by, and two Men were thrown down, one of them was killed, and the other had his Leg broke in two Pieces, by the Wheels running over them.
Tho' we have such excellent Laws against this scandalous Practice, of throwing Squibs, yet it passes with Impunity.
