ACADEMY OF MEDICINE.

Regular Meeting and Election of Officers Last Night.

The 41st regular meeting of the Maine Academy of Medicine and Science was held at the Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary last evening. There was a large attendance and a fine session was enjoyed.

After the banquet which was served at 7 o'clock, the regular session was called to order by Dr. M. C. Wedgewood of Lewiston, the president. The records of the last meeting were read and approved and the monthly report was submitted. Dr. Daniel W. Woodman of Yarmouthville and Hon. C. I. Bailey of Winthrop were elected fellows. Dr. G. M. Woodward of Bangor was elected vice president of section 6, public health, legal medicine and medical and vital statistics.

The council presented a resolution relative to a change in the constitution which is to be acted upon at the meeting in December that the length of term of the president and vice president shall be changed from three years to one year, and that the vice presidents of the sections from an indefinite time to two years. The following committee on nominations was appointed: Dr. Daniel F. Driscoll of Portland, Dr. W. B. Small of Lewiston, E. S. Everett of Portland.

The following nominations were made:

President—Dr. S. J. Beresford of Biddeford.
Corresponding and Statistical Secretary—Dr. Addison S. Thayer of Portland.
Recording Secretary—Dr. Daniel F. Driscoll of Portland.
Treasurer—Dr. H. F. Twitchell of Portland.
Trustee for seven years—Hon. E. B. Winslow of Portland.

It was voted to refer the matter of nominations of president and vice president of the sections in the proposed change to the committee on nominations.

Dr. W. H. Oakes of Auburn read a paper on "My cases of appendicitis."
Dr. C. E. Williams of Auburn reported on "An operation for appendicitis during typhoid fever."
Dr. S. C. Gordon of Portland reported an interesting case.
Drs. Gordon of Portland, E. M. Fuller of Bath, H. F. Twitchell of Portland, Sturgis, J. S. Beresford and H. B. Palmer of Farmington, discussed the subject of appendicitis especially on points regarding the papers presented.
