Ignorant Graduates.

Edward Bok, to test the work done by colleges, sent out letters calling for replies and the writers were graded on grammar, spelling, punctuation and composition.

The specimens given by Mr. Bok are in truth distressing. From 100 letters taken from those received from the fair graduates, 35 proved to be below the passing mark of 70, and not a single letter was absolutely correct. The showing of the men was better, but not exactly brilliant. Of 449 letters, 59 were below the passing mark and 200 just above it. Only 45 letters were what they should have been after sixteen years of schooling and drilling.
