A LOOK OVER THE POLITICAL FENCE
BY THE MAN ON THE OTHER SIDE.

Funny how the Republicans have started the "foreigner" cry in local politics, while one of their own candidates is actually a "foreigner" a fact that can be proven.

It seems that the Republicans have assessed their assistant deputy auditor alias assistant deputy prosecutor, etc. who draws a county salary for a little of nothing. In his column in the Sunday paper he says:

"These are times the little fellow who holds some sort of job by the grace of a political party hates like heck to come around. He's expected to fork out; and either does or else."

Another smile of the local campaign is the unemployment and relief expense cry of the Pratts. Why bless your soul, the Pratts started to take care of the unemployed, by placing them on the relief years before Roosevelt was elected.

One of the unemployed always taken care of by the Republican Pratts by a monthly relief check has been the county humane officer. This gentleman was never selected from the ranks of the unemployed, but always unemployed after taking office receiving the relief from the county tax payers.

Another of the un-employed has been the dog catcher, who not only draws a relief check monthly from the county payroll, but gets free transportation, about 15,000 miles a year to and from his home, so he can loaf about the court house. The dog catcher has been one of the most expensive forms of unemployment and relief ever known.

Other forms of relief practiced by the Republicans about the court house are land and property appraisers, who draw five dollars for taking an auto ride a few blocks from the court house, spending ten minutes to look over a piece of real estate. The list of these lucky persons who do this work along with their regular jobs with private jobs about the city are many.

No dear reader, relief of the Pratt kind has been going on in Ironton for years, and the sorry part is, it is the fellows who have other jobs and don't need it, that Pratt and Co. are handing out the tax payers money to in a lavish manner.

The question of the day Wonder how many Pratts will get jobs as supervisors when the new county hospital is put to use?

Listening in on the radio paid announcements, our ears do not deceive us. We hear that good old Mont Miller was responsible for bringing all the New Deal money into the county for the new hospital, new schools, new sewers, new swimming pool, etc.

Good old Mont has been a powerful factor in getting the Democratic appropriations for Lawrence county. To hear the radio tell it, Mont has been the right-hand assistant to President Roosevelt. He wants to be re-elected on Roosevelt prosperity.

What ever Mont has wanted for Lawrence county all he has had to do is to wire Washington and F.D.R. would say "O.K. Mont. old kid. it is yours for the asking."

Mont takes credit for everything since the New Deal started, but he fails to mention, that hundred and fifty thousand dollar county garage, that could have been built by any one except the Lawrence County Commissioners for about three thousand dollars.

Since Mont has been such a friend of the Roosevelt's and has supported the New Deal, it would be a good idea for him to tell the people of Lawrence county why he turned a deaf ear to the cries of children for food last winter, when the Commissioners declined to take the food sent into Lawrence county for free distribution by the federal and state administrations? Why did the Commissioners refuse the nice warm blankets and send them back and deny the people of Lawrence county the warm comforts provided for the unemployed all over the state?

Good old Humanitarian Mont—The people's friend only at election time. He kept out of the county more from the New Deal than he turned his hand over to attempt to bring in.

Many are wondering what has become of John Imes, who for "three long years" while holding jobs under the New Deal shouted the praises of Roosevelt. John is now on the pay roll of the Pratts, singing their praises along with Ducky Corn, Landon and Knox.
