Cuban Ambassador to U.S. Resigns and Asks Asylum

HAVANA, (A)-Jose Miro Cardona resigned today as Cuba's ambassador-designate to the U.S. and took refuge in the Argentine embassy. He implied the leftist trend of the Fidel Castro regime left him no other choice.

In a letter to President Osvaldo Dorticos, the veteran Cuban diplomat declared:

"The idealogical differences between the plans of your government and my conscience are unsolvable."

He had been waiting several months to take his Washington post.
