One Who Has Had an Exceptional Career-Mrs. Bella McKnight, Formerly With Y. W. C. A.
Mrs. Bella Taylor McKnight, formerly field secretary of the national board of the Young Women's Christian Association, has been appointed executive secretary of the Cleveland branch of the NAACP.
Mrs. McKnight, wife of William T McKnight, attorney here for the U. S. Department of Labor, succeeds Charles W. Quick, who has accepted a law professorship in North Carolina State College. The new executive secretary comes here with a wide background of social experience.
After her graduation from the University of Minnesota in 1923 she became a secretary for the "YW" in Chicago. In 1926 she went to the national "YW" headquarters in New York. Mrs. McKnight later was associated with the' "YW" in Philadelphia and Toledo.
In June, 1939, she was appointed senior interviewer in the Toledo office of the Ohio State Bureau of Unemployment Compensation, a position she held until August of this year. In Toledo, Mrs. McKnight also was active in the NAACP. In addition, she served as chairman of the industrial committee of the race relations department of the Toledo Council of Churches and co-chairman of the race relations committee of the "YW". She was a member there of the state board of the women's department of the Ohio Council of Churches.
Mr. and Mrs. McKnight live at 9920 N. Blvd. She has assumed her duties at the NAACP branch headquarters, 9014 Cedar Avenue.
