Build A New Auditorium

Civil Works Administration Funds To Pay for Three-Fourths of It; Old Auditorium To Be Cut Up Into Class Rooms and School Library

Three-fourths of the necessary funds required for the construction of a new auditorium for Middleburg high school will be provided by the Civil Works Administration and already have been approved both here and in Raleigh, it was learned today. Speedy endorsement of the program was given to C. P. Rogers principal, and G. B. Blum, vocational agriculture teacher, of the school in Raleigh Saturday.

The project, of which E. G. Flanigan, of this city, is the architect, will cost $12,600 and $9,000 of CWA funds have been allotted for labor costs. The remainder will be furnished by the county, and will be borrowed from the State literary fund, to be paid back over a period of ten years, or at the rate of $360 per year.

The CWA labor funds will, of course, not have to repaid.

The auditorium will have a seating capacity of some 400 to 500, or about the same, Superintendent E. M. Rollins, of the school system, said. at the present auditorium at the school, which is to be cut up into four class rooms and a library. Creation of these additional class rooms will also make it possible to take out of the dormitory classes that are now being held there daily, and put them all in the administration building.

The auditorium will be erected at the rear of the present building and will be one story. Work is to start at once. No contract will be let. A foreman and the CWA laborers will work under the direction of the architect in erecting the new structure.
