Full Text

A few days ago a poor pregnant woman, with the most expressive dejection of countenance, passing through Leadenhall market, fixed her eyes, with the most eager desire, on a bullock's heart that hung up at a butcher's shop. Upon asking the price of it she found she had not enough to purchase it by a halfpenny. She solicited to have it for what money she had about her, but the butcher's man refused her the favour, and behaved, with an inhuman insolence. At that instant the master happened to come, and inquiring into the affair, made the woman a present of the heart, and discharged the man from his service.
