SACRED TO THE MUSES.

INVASION OF ENGLAND.

DEVOURING war shall wake his Gallic hand
At freedom's call, & scourge their guilty land.
And while his thundering chariot rolls along,
And scatters discord o'er the fatal throng;
Death in the van, with anger, hate and fear,
And desolation stalking in the rear;
Revenge, by justice guided, with his train,
Shall drive impetuous o'er the trembling plain,
Then tyrant vet'ries, with despotic hosts,
Shall yield to freedom all the pow'r they boast,
With furious pirates swarming round the coast.
Then peace o'er earth, shall hold her easy sway,
And man no more his brother man will slay,
But white rob'd Liberty from Heaven descend,
And through the world her equal laws extend.
