Pulitzer to Start a "World" In the Windy City.
CHICAGO, January 1.—A short time ago the Chicago World Company, with a capital stock of $400,000, was incorporated under the laws of this State. The Evening Journal says that Joseph Pulitzer, proprietor of the New York World, is back of the enterprise, and adds the following:
"Mr. Pulitzer's agents have been in the city for the last few weeks negotiating for the purchase of a site befitting this latest newspaper venture, and the requirement of the requisite plant. Negotiations were opened with the proprietor of a Democratic daily, but they were not closed, owing to the fact that the owner of the sheet persistently raised the price on the would-be purchasers just when the deal was about to be closed. As a natural consequence, all negotiations were dropped, and the result will be that Mr. Pulitzer will essay, in the city of Chicago, a repetition of his success in the New York newspaper business. It is not definitely known whether Mr. Pulitzer has succeeded in obtaining a suitable site on which to erect his new newspaper building."
Another afternoon paper says that rumor has it that Henry Clews, of New York, is interested in the new venture.
